South African Fashion Week’s TenTwentyTwenty Collections is the first digital, Fashion Week in Africa. The format allows the designers to navigate the complexities of trading and doing business effectively.
The Collections are trans-seasonal incorporating both cool and warm weather elements. They are also increasingly representing a move towards a “slow fashion” ethos of timeless design and sustainable production. There is a very real commitment from the designers to pursue the transition to a new fashion order. SAFW is equally committed to this process and is facilitating greater collaboration between designers and downstream value chain through our partnerships with, among others, the SA Mohair cluster and Cape Wool SA as well as weavers and knitters. In this groundbreaking fashion event, the SA Fashion Week presents a three-day streaming programme of 27 digital runway shows. Now in its 23rd year, SA Fashion Week is committed to developing the local designer labels, telling their stories nationally and internationally, on and off the runway.
SAFW, the only Business to Business platform in Africa, markets the designer collections to the buyers, media, celebrities and the designer bespoke clients. In a recent study assessing the economic value of the Creative Fashion Design Industry an Industry initiated in 1997 by Lucilla Booyzen shows that the total annual combined turnover across all designers sits at aver R800M whilst the total impact of the Creative Fashion Design Sector’s influence sits at nearly 500 000.
